October is a busy month here at the Parrott Gallery. Drop in and check out all of the great events and programs we have planned for you.

In Galleries One and Two we are happy to host the Belleville Art Association Annual Juried Show. The work of the members of this venerable group is truly awe-inspiring and shouldn’t be missed. This is the BAA’s 61st juried show and it will not disappoint. The exhibition runs until October 31.

The Women’s Book Art Collective, conceptualized by artist Chandra Rice, is an open collective of women artists, each of whom have responded to a call to create a small work of art in the form of an accordion pop-up book. A collection of these beautiful books are now on display on the first and second floors of the library. Create your own by picking up a blank copy at our main circulation desk. For more information, visit chandrarice.ca/woboarco. Enjoy these displays until October 18.

On October 10 at 6:30 p.m. we welcome back The Armchair Traveller series. First up is Dr. Robert Bates, who zooms us to the stars and back with his images of our solar system taken from the telescope in his backyard observatory. Admission is free and registration is not required. You can enjoy a selection of images from this series in the Corridor Gallery until the end of November.

Plan to spend some time with us on October 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the Drawing Room. This is a non-instructional studio session to encourage the traditional practice of drawing and painting the human figure from a draped model. All are welcome. We suggest a $3 donation for the model. The Gallery Stroll also offers an opportunity to discover Belleville’s Gallery District on October 17 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Explore and experience the amazing talents of artists and artisans from throughout the Quinte region and beyond at five participating galleries including the Parrott.

Round off the day with a musical performance as part of the Gallery Stroll. In recognition of the Downie Wenjack Secret Path Week, solo artist Gavin Foster will perform songs from Gord Downie’s Secret Path album on October 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The concert will include stories about Chanie Wenjack, the residential school system, and the Downie Wenjack Fund’s truth and reconciliation efforts. Admission is free but donations are encouraged in support of the Downie Wenjack Fund.

The Doodle Group returns on October 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. These are guided, mindful drawing sessions for all ages on the third Friday of every month. Bring your creativity and supplies, and be prepared to be amazed at what you can create. All are welcome to join this free program.

There’s a new musical group in town and we are very pleased to host their first public concert on October 26 at 2:30 p.m. Join the Amaryllis Trio for “Seriously Lighthearted.” Violinist Gabriella Hamley, cellist Ana Varona and pianist Debra Richardson-Edge will perform a selection of classical and salon music. Admission is free and registration is not required.

We’re excited to announce on October 29 we will introduce a new workshop: The Painting Clinic. Do you have a painting or two that are ‘sick’? Need a dose of inspiration? Attend the Painting Clinic at the Parrott Gallery with ‘Doctor Artist’ Kato Wake. These open studio sessions with private coaching are open to all levels and painting styles in any medium. Email katowake@gmail.com to register for the whole day (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), at a cost of $50 plus tax, or a half day, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at a cost of $30 plus tax.

So take some time to visit the Parrott Gallery and Shop on the third floor of Belleville Public Library. You won’t be disappointed!
